Final post

Ending my first year as a college student was interesting. But even with that said I learned a lot about psychology. From this semester I learned how the brain works and psychological disorders. Our first lesson was over brain and behavior. In a Ted talk a scientist talked about how the brain works. I found it interesting that a neuroscientist helped design a exoskeleton suit that helped a paralyzed man kick the first ball at the 2014 World Cup. I also learned about sensation. This involved our 5 senses that we use to be aware of our surroundings and adapt to what is happening. In week 5 we learned about a development of a child. The biggest thing that stuck out to me was the nature vs nurture debate. After that lesson we learned about memory and learning. The studying of memory has blown scientist minds away when they study and look at the brain. Scientist have studied how we receive information and translate that into our memory bank. In module 5 we learned about motivations and em...

Gratitude Visit

I wrote a letter to my youth ministers that are leaving the church that I grew up at and taught me all the years I was in the youth group. Here is the letter. Dear John and Crysty,      There are not enough thank you's I could say to the both of y'all for how much y'all did for me and the others in the youth group as I grew up. I still remember my first Sunday class I ever had in the youth group. John made me stand up and say my name and who was my favorite super hero and of course I was going to say Batman because I knew who was asking me the question. Some of my favorite memories growing up were from youth group events. From Pine Springs, The Houston Mission trip, or even Guatemala. I am still so thankful that I got to experience Guatemala and it wouldn't have been without John and my Dad basically forcing me to go. I learned so many lessons from that trip that I still think about as I write this letter to y'all.      I want to say thank you ...

M6

#CounselorsHelp Growing up and still to this day my Dad has been a minister for Preston Road Church of Christ. As a part of his training and learning for this job he learned techniques like a counselor doers because people come to him and ask for help too. So growing up he didn't have the official job as a counselor but he knew what he was doing. To me it was very easy to talk to him and not just because he was my Dad but also because he was a great listener and usually gave great advice. With this being said I strongly believe that it is because of his training that he was able to listen and able to communicate so well with me.

M5 "My story"

If I had to describe myself in one word it would be caring. Through out my life when people are asked to describe me to others one word that has be constantly repeated is the word caring. Hearing this and knowing this it is something that I can take pride in. I care for anyone even if I barely know them. If I see someone crying my first reaction is to ask them what is wrong and what can I do to help. It something that just comes natural to me I guess. I never want to be able to say I have turned away from helping someone that needed help even if it is something that is little and just needed someone to talk to. I want to be the person that is there for them and help them. I want to be the person that cares.

Memory Reflection

Memory related disorders and forgetting: The memory disorder that stood out to me is Alzheimers. I have personally affected by this disease because two people on my moms side of the family have had this disease. The thing about this disease is that the brain attacks itself. There is no cure for this disease and went you get it there is nothing you can do about it. Improving memory: The method that stood out to me was the first video. The described the method as bundling. As an example take a large group of numbers and then break them up to different groups and learn them separately. It is easier to memorize all of them that way. I believe that I found a new method to study and I am going to start using it.

M4 Task

Step By Step: For this assignment I had my roommate and my little brother who was visiting me have the same test ran on them. I gave both of them a notecard and a pencil before I tested them. I told them listen to the words I read out loud and then after write the words you remember down on the note card. This was the list: fish, bowl, gold, bed, sheets, pillow, blanket, materials, room, door,  window,  blinds, sun.  My roommate wrote down: fish, bowl, bed, sheets, materials, room, door, and sun.  My brother wrote down: fish, gold, bed, sheets, blanket, room, blinds, and sun.  Once they had written all the words down I told them to listen to the second list of words I was going to give them and repeat the process. This is the second list: doctor, nurse, dentist, needle, sponge, hospital, health, snore, scan, peace, medic, emergency, snooze, rest, lawyer, dream, awake, sleep.  My roommate wrote down: doctor, dentist,...

Learning

This weeks blog is about learning. One of the things that stood out to me was acquisition. Acquisition, according to the book is the point of learning process at which the neutral stimulus becomes a conditioned stimulus because it causes the conditioned response. An example of this is a dog. Two stimuli is a bell and food. When the dog hears the bell he or she knows that they are about to receive food. RESEARCH OF LEARNING When reading about learning this week I decided to look up what learning is. Learning isn't something that happens when you are only at school but learning is happening all the time and varies depending on the environment and what you are doing at this time. REAL WORLD APPLICATION  Through this I have learned that I can study two little things in a topic at a time and then put these things together to be able to know them. I believe that I will be able to obtain more knowledge at the same time and understand topics a lot better. This assignment will help ...
