M4 Task

Step By Step:

For this assignment I had my roommate and my little brother who was visiting me have the same test ran on them. I gave both of them a notecard and a pencil before I tested them.

I told them listen to the words I read out loud and then after write the words you remember down on the note card.

This was the list: fish, bowl, gold, bed, sheets, pillow, blanket, materials, room, door,  window,  blinds, sun.

My roommate wrote down: fish, bowl, bed, sheets, materials, room, door, and sun.
My brother wrote down: fish, gold, bed, sheets, blanket, room, blinds, and sun.

Once they had written all the words down I told them to listen to the second list of words I was going to give them and repeat the process.

This is the second list: doctor, nurse, dentist, needle, sponge, hospital, health, snore, scan, peace, medic, emergency, snooze, rest, lawyer, dream, awake, sleep.

My roommate wrote down: doctor, dentist, needle, sponge, hospital, health, snore, scan, peace, medic, snooze, dream, sleep.
My brother wrote down: doctor, nurse, needle, health, snore, peace, medic, rest, lawyer, ,dream, sleep.

Results:

I was both surprised but expecting what happened at the same time. As an athlete growing up and now in college I have always had to take the concussion test. One of the sections on the test is exactly like the test I did with my brother and roommate. I would always try to remember all of the words but  couldn't. But I do remember always knowing the first and last words which is what my brother and roommate did also. This. proves the "primacy" and "recency" test. This was very interesting but also made since to me.

Both participants were surprised by the results. They both learned that they do not have a good short term memory.
