Final post

Ending my first year as a college student was interesting. But even with that said I learned a lot about psychology. From this semester I learned how the brain works and psychological disorders. Our first lesson was over brain and behavior. In a Ted talk a scientist talked about how the brain works. I found it interesting that a neuroscientist helped design a exoskeleton suit that helped a paralyzed man kick the first ball at the 2014 World Cup. I also learned about sensation. This involved our 5 senses that we use to be aware of our surroundings and adapt to what is happening. In week 5 we learned about a development of a child. The biggest thing that stuck out to me was the nature vs nurture debate. After that lesson we learned about memory and learning. The studying of memory has blown scientist minds away when they study and look at the brain. Scientist have studied how we receive information and translate that into our memory bank. In module 5 we learned about motivations and emotions. When we experience emotions or strong motions we feel the experience. After this was module 6. In this module we learned about psychological disorders. These disorders aren't something to just look pass. It affects most people even if you don't realize it sometimes.
A topic that stood out to me was perceptions and sensation. I thought it fascinating how these two things can trick the brain sometimes. I decided to do some research on this and there are actually pictures and videos that will play mind games with you. These videos and pictures trick our minds into something that we think we see. Sight isn't the only thing that can play tricks on us. There are auditory illusions were we aren't able to make out the message that we are receiving. Our senses allow us to be able to adapt to the world around us. Our brain is only able to use the information that is being given that is why when we are doing illusions our brain is able to know what is happening.
Switching subjects to our class discussions I liked the first one we had. It was the first time I was able to see the professor face to face. She gave her opinion on what the class accomplished so far and it was very interesting to hear what she had to say.
From a technology point of view I enjoyed this being an online class. Personally I am really good at technology. So this class when it came to that was a piece of cake. I also liked having to do all the work online instead of on paper. Its just something that I am able to remember things better that way and it is also easier for me to learn that way. It was also easier for me to express myself which I wouldn't be able to do infront of the whole class.
My favorite blog post was M7. I did the gratitude visit part of m7.  I wrote a letter to my youth ministers that are moving churches. They watched me grow up but also helped me become the man I am today. I haven't been able to see them yet but they told me they wanted to talk in person about the letter I sent them and I am so excited to be able to see them and see what they are going to say.
I really enjoyed reading Brandon Millers post. I could tell that he put a lot of thought and hard work into them. Also knowing him and able to talk in person about the lesson made me really made me want to look more into what we were learning.

  1. This was very thorough and I enjoyed reading your final blog. I also enjoyed the sensation and perception module. I found 3D sidewalk chalk the best illusion. Whenever I encounter an illusion next ill be sure to express my new found knowledge in regards to psychology on the subject!
